There's nothing easy about the Sermon on the Mount, but perhaps the hardest part of this teaching is Jesus' command to love one's enemies! Jesus had enemies who opposed him at every turn, and yet, he called on his followers to pray for them. Prayer for the well-being and redemption of our enemies is the most difficult part of being a Jesus follower, and yet, it may be the practice that shapes us in Christlikeness the most! As Matthew 5:48 demonstrates, our growth in Christlikeness is directly tied to our willingness to prayer for our enemies.
